From playgrounds to parliament, our homes to our phones, this Anti-Bullying Week let’s ‘Choose Respect’ and bring an end to bullying which negatively impacts millions of young lives. This year, and every year, we’ll work to empower children and young people to not resort to bullying, even when we disagree - and we'll remind adults to lead by example, online and offline. To celebrate #YouthWorkWeek and its theme of 𝘼 𝙧𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩 𝙩𝙤 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙩𝙝 𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙠 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙖𝙡𝙡 we want to shine a light on a new Youth Work Network in Northumberland. Bringing together voluntary sector organisations across the County to build a stronger future for our young people through youth work. The network will quantify and demonstrate the value of the sector to service users and commissioners. It will better position the sector to receive statutory funding for commissioned work. We know #YouthWork is hugely important to young people, as the @NationalYouthAgency youth survey shows that it helps young people feel more connected to their community and have a sense of belonging: https://nya.org.uk/youth-survey-2024

The survey found that nearly three quarters of young people who attend a youth club weekly, said that it supported their mental and physical wellbeing a great deal. Conversely, the latest Census report shows that the demand for mental health support from youth organisations has increased more than any other targeted service, with demand increasing amongst 82% of respondents. Barnabas Safe & Sound are supporting #YouthWorkWeek and the importance of 𝘼 𝙧𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩 𝙩𝙤 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙩𝙝 𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙠 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙖𝙡𝙡. The theme aims to highlight the many ways that youth work spaces are made accessible to all and which enable young people to explore and celebrate their own identity and values.

Youth work not only gives young people life changing opportunities but according to research by UK Youth and Frontier Economics for every £1 the government invests in youth work, the benefits to the taxpayer are between £3.20 and £6.40.

What a great night we had last night at KEVI Inspi

What a great night we had last night at KEVI Inspires!! We spoke to loads of young people about our training project, Ambitious Youth - giving opportunities to gain barista/food hygiene/youth work training. All offering so many transferable skills, and boosting employability prospects. We also took the opportunity to ask young people what issues are affecting them, or their friends right now. We're going to look at these responses in more detail, but we can tell you there are lots of young people worried or concerned about the use of social media, their body image, their mental health, schoolwork, friendships, family life, drugs and alcohol. It was great to get such honest feedback from a fab bunch of young people.
