Investing in our Services and Facilities
Keeping young people safe and encouraging their self-development is important to us.
YOUTH WORK
On 31st October 2022, we were delighted to officially launch our new GARAGE youth centre! It’s a fantastic safe, well-equipped space where young people can hang-out with friends and engage with our team of youth workers. Projects within this space will be young person led – so they feel invested and can develop their skills through activities they enjoy. We will encourage young people to engage through social enterprise so they can develop their confidence, self-esteem and resilience.
THE GARAGE
Opening times Thursday and Friday evenings between 4pm and 6pm for ages 13-19 years.
HOUSING
As a commitment to the residents within our Supported Housing project, we continually review and update our properties. It is our aim to ensure all supported accommodation offers a homely environment, where young people can feel safe, whilst learning the skills they need to live independently, with the help and guidance of a dedicated Support Worker.
OUR VISION FOR THE FUTURE
With further investment and community support, we hope to continue the development of our Wellwood House town-centre base, to create a community hub specifically for young people, a place they can call their own, strengthening their identity within the local community – offering chill out zones, learning and development spaces, and vital supported accommodation for vulnerable young people experiencing housing crisis. This is an exciting project which will change the outlook for many local young people.
Refurbishing the garage
Opportunities for Young People.
At Barnabas we support young people to reach their full potential.
All young people accessing the service receive above and beyond that which is funded within housing benefit eligible costs. Housing benefit enables us to manage our accommodation, maintain our properties and provide tenancy management support services to our residents, giving them the best chance to manage in their own tenancies when the time is right.
Outside of this housing related support, we work hard to provide additional opportunities to young people. With the help of a dedicated Support Worker, young people can address other issues, such as their rights and responsibilities, health and wellbeing, and personal safety & awareness. This valuable support requires additional fundraising. More information can be found here.
Unrestricted Funds.
Most of our income is restricted to specific project costs.
With the demand for charity services at an all-time high, far outstripping the availability of funding, we need to fundraise to help cover the day-to-day operational costs of the charity. This also enables us to continue offering bespoke support projects to young people engaging with us.
